We have an in-house mentor with over 20 years of mentoring experience delivering a structured mentoring programme one: one and in group workshop settings to all young people at Nevaeh Homes.
Our mentoring programme aims to reduce gang violence, to deter young people from gang involvement by providing them with knowledge around the negative consequences of gang commitment and the ‘gang culture’, to provide young people with further information around the court system and sentencing; to open their eyes to current policing around youth violence initiatives and the impact that the ‘culture’ will have on them, their families and their futures
Nevaeh Homes work in conjunction with Integrative Therapists who can offer young people one: one therapy sessions that can help with a variety of mental health and emotional issues, including: anxiety, depression, trauma, relationships, addiction, bereavement low self-esteem and substance misuse
Our therapists are specialists in trauma, exploitation, and abuse
Our therapists integrative therapy style is personalised and well-rounded and can be used for both short and long-term issues and looks at each young person holistically. The tools used can range from mindfulness, art therapy, music therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) plus more
Young people on higher packages of support or in solo placements, this will be inclusive in the placement/ support costs. If a young person is on a lower package of support, therapy will still be available, but this will come at an additional cost to the placing local authority
All staff are trained a by SCOPeD Level C Therapist to ensure that our staff team to become more trauma aware and to exercise therapeutic parenting as part of service delivery with all young people
Young people with a main care giver that wishes to rebuild a fractured relationship with the young person that they care for would be offered this programme. This opens conversations between the young person and the care giver, allowing each side to explain their own experiences as a result and their concerns and fears so that each party can develop a better understanding of the others feelings and how their actions impact the other
Part of this programme will be educating the care giver around the targeted areas that the young person has been touched by so that emotionally the care giver can begin to understand the struggle of the young person and work together to make things better for both parties
Another part of the programme is to offer the care giver practical support with ways to manage the young person when they return home, measure to take, boundaries to implement, incentives to introduce, what is and is not acceptable, signs and triggers and where to go if in need of support
The above programme should make the transition back home much better for both the young person and the care giver as they will have a better understanding of each other, their experiences and will feel confident that they have a plan for the future if they were to experience any difficulties
Outreach Support:
Nevaeh’s Outreach Support Service is designed to help young people aged 18-25 years old in Nottingham and provide a person-centred approach designed to empower young people, support them to become independent and reach their full potential
Outcome Star Based Support:
We strongly believe in young people taking control of their own lives and want to support them to identify aspects of their lives that are important to them and then to set achievable goals
The Young Person’s Independent Living Star covers eight outcome areas that allow the young person to think about how things are going and if there is anything that they need a little extra help with
These are as follows:
Nevaeh Homes empathised with the fact that most looked after children and young people have not been on holiday or even a few days aways from home having fun. We have luxurious, fully furnished six and an eight berth lodges with lake views, access to the pool, spa, activities, gaming and bars and restaurants.
